The Lady Raiders blew their lead in the last inning of Saturday’s home game against the Cisco Wranglers and lost 6-5.

The game was even, and scoreless, until RSC got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning.

Courtney Moore, who played third base in Saturday’s game, hit an RBI single, bringing in one run. Later in the inning, shortstop Cheyenne Johnson hit a two-run single with the bases loaded, giving the Lady Raiders a commanding 3-0 lead.

Throughout the game, RSC dominated almost every inning. Their offense was on fire, and their defense didn’t hold back. Head Coach Nickie Williams said offense had a “good approach.”

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Lady Raiders extended their lead to 5-0 when catcher Erin Elmore hit a two-run double.

RSC was up by five runs going into the seventh inning and needed three outs to end the game on top. Then, the Wrangler’s bats caught fire, and the Lady Raider’s defense failed to make even the simplest of plays.

The Wranglers scored two quick runs off singles then hit a huge three-run homer to tie the game. After a double by the Wranglers and a botched play at third base by RSC, the Wranglers took a 6-5 lead.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, outfielder Nikki Horton, gave the Lady Raiders a chance to tie by stealing third base; this was her second base stolen during the game.

Ultimately, the Lady Raiders failed to regain the lead, giving up six runs in the last inning. A disappointed Horton said they “did really good up till the last inning.”

Williams had the same attitude after the game.

“At the end there we made some mistakes that cost us,” Williams said.
