Campus organizations host V.Day activities

Sweetheart or not, those celebrating Valentine’s Day on Thursday, Feb. 14 should face no problem finding fun on campus.

Library Club students are selling candy bars for Valentine’s day as a fundraiser for their organization.

The Library Club is hosting a fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Learning Resources Center. Club members will be selling candy bars for one dollar each at the information desk.

Each candy bar bought earns the buyer an entry into a drawing for a $25 gift card to Cheddar’s Casual Cafe. According  to Library Club advisor Brad Robison, all proceeds will benefit the Library Club, and that participants do not need to be present at time of drawing to win the gift card.

For faculty and staff…

Staff and faculty are invited to gather from 2- 4 p.m., Feb. 14 in the Raider Room, for the “Just Desserts” event. Three organizations (Faculty Association, Professional and Administrative Staff Association and Classified Staff Association) are coming together for the potluck luncheon.

If that’s not enough, with a one-dollar ticket, staff and faculty may win a chance to throw a pie in the face of campus “celebrities.”

A breeze stirs RSC

The Faculty Senate and Faculty Association have set a new tradition in motion this spring with the first ever Leadership Assessment Survey.

The Leadership Assessment Survey is impersonal and confidential, which allows the faculty to express any concerns they have about how the campus administrators are performing in their jobs.

“What’s great about this survey device is that it’s not about the person doing the job, it’s about the job the person is doing,” Craig Dawkins, president-elect of the Faculty Senate and chair of the Leadership Assessment sub-committee said.

In the fall of 2010, Section E of the Faculty Association constitution was added. This addition needed a two-thirds vote, yet received an 85 percent approval vote from the association members.

Section E gives the Faculty Senate and Association permission to create and distribute the Leadership Assessment Survey.

In the spring of 2011, one representative from each of the five-faculty divisions on campus joined the Leadership Assessment sub-committee to create the survey device to help open a channel between the faculty and college administrators.

“The survey gives the Faculty Association a chance to show the college how we view and feel about certain aspects of the college,” Dawkins said, “this type of survey should have been going on long ago and we’re glad we started it.”

The survey is aimed at giving the college president and vice presidents of Academic Affairs, Business Affairs, Student Affairs, and the IT division hard data to determine if they are meeting the needs of the college.

Every year the Leadership Assessment sub-committee will meet to discuss and decide if there are any changes that the Faculty Association feels is necessary to help the college continue progressing forward.

This survey has been distributed to the faculty throughout campus, and has a final submission date of April 13. After the surveys are submitted, Dawkins will develop a report that will be distributed to Dr. Britton, and to the Faculty Senate and Faculty Association.
